Zojirushi NP-HTC18 Review

Zojirushi NP-HTC18 Rice Cooker

Price Range: Expensive

Rice Quality: Excellent

Benefits & Features: Several

Performance: Excellent

Pros vs. Cons: Pros Outweigh Cons
Overall Rating: Excellent

The Zojirushi NP-HTC18 is the larger 10 cup version of the NP-HTC10 model and can prepare up 30 cups cooked white rice (in rice cooker cup measurements!).

Like its smaller brother, this unit comes with a pretty considerable price! And while it does cook brown rice very well, with a texture as soft and fluffy as white rice, this appliance may not be for everyone for other reasons then having to visit an ATM machine…

The Unit Loves Brown Rice!

Utilizing GABA technology along with pressure cooking and extra soaking times makes this unit one of the few that turns the beta starch in the brown rice to alpha starch along with releasing as many nutrients as possible. When set in this mode, the end result is a bowl of brown rice that is both tasty and easy to digest.

Please note this setting is only for brown types of rice.

In addition, the Zojirushi NP-HTC18 also has other settings for white rice, sweet rice, regular brown, and sushi. All the user has to do is select their desired rice setting, add the correct instructed water-to-rice measurements, and the rice cooker does the rest.

Add that with a controlled distribution of heat due to the unit’s insulated construction and you’ll have perfect rice every time.

We should add that when the rice is complete, the unit will switch into its keep warm mode holding the rice at a moist ready to serve temperature. *Just be sure to avoid letting brown rice sit too long since it spoils faster than white rice!

However, as we mention on the Zojirushi NP-HTC10 page, this unit should not be purchased for folks who mainly cook regular white rice…for that we recommended researching less expensive models. This cooker was designed more for brown rice.

Included with the Zojirushi NP-HTC18 are two measuring cups, a non-stick bowl, serving paddle with side holder, and manual.

  • cooks great rice with fantastic texture and flavor
  • has a stylish design that fits the decor of almost any kitchen
  • offers GABA technology for nutrient-rich rice
  • perfect for folks who love moist & fluffy brown rice
  • sports an easy to read panel with digital display
  • programmable timer
  • keeps rice warm when finished

  • expensive price tag
  • size requires some extra counter room
  • takes several hours to prepare brown rice
  • does not offer more diverse benefits despite price (steaming, slow-cooking, etc.)

Where to Buy a Zojirushi Rice Cooker

Available at Amazon.com

More pros than cons we gather, and do keep in mind that it gets a nice amount of positive ratings in the Amazon Customer Reviews section.

The only bad thing about it is that price tag, in fact we believe this is one of Zojirushi’s most expensive rice cookers. Overall, the Zojirushi name means only quality, durability, and of course high standard rice. In the long run, the many great tasting rice dishes this model will produce may make it worth it.

Just be sure this cooker is something you will use more than once or twice a week to justify the costly investment in this appliance…along with cooking several rice varieties!

Too bad the Zojirushi NP-HTC18 doesn’t offer steaming and slow-cooking benefits as well.

Tip: keep unit plugged in to prolong the internal battery life…please note the unit will still continue to perform properly without it as it just runs the clock when the unit is unplugged. Life of battery is approx. 4 years.
