Panasonic SR-NA18 10 Cup Rice Cooker

Price Range: Moderate

Rice Quality: Very Good

Benefits & Features: Several

Performance: Excellent

Pros vs. Cons: Pros Outweigh Cons
Overall Rating: Very Good

The Panasonic SR-NA18 is the larger 10 cup version of the smaller SR-NA10 model, and like the SR-NA10 performs the same, looks the same, and above all, utilizes “Fuzzy Logic” technology.

As stated on the SR-NA10 review page, Fuzzy Logic allows the cooker to do more than simply cook rice. Inside the unit is a computer that will monitor how your rice is cooking, making adjusts where and when needed…more specifically those for temperature and cooking time.

The end result (although folks need to wait longer) is a bowl of rice that is fluffy, moist, and full of flavor. In fact, Fuzzy Logic along with the specific rice settings will take most of the guess work out of cooking great rice.

Rice Settings

Aboard the Panasonic SR-NA18 come 6 different rice settings, 1 steam setting, and even a cake-baking setting. For rice there is, white, brown, rinse-free, sushi, and quick cook. Just please note that the “quick cook” setting tends to sacrifice overall quality since the Fuzzy Logic feature is not activated.

When the rice is finished cooking, the unit will switch into a keep warm mode that will hold the rice at a moist and ready to eat temperature for many hours. The unit can also be programmed allowing folks to set an approximate finish time and can have a hot bowl of rice waiting when returning from work.

Although the manual may be somewhat confusing, setting up this process takes only a few minutes of learning and for the most part is pretty straight forward.

This Panasonic 10 cup rice cooker also includes a dishwasher-safe steaming basket for preparing vegetables, poultry, and seafood. The size is good for feeding about 2 to 3 people…but one user did state it could have been a little bigger since a whole head of cauliflower does not fit.

This basket is made of plastic and will not scratch the inner bowl. Included is a measuring cup, rice scoop with holder, manual, and stay-cool carrying handle fixed atop unit.

When its time for clean up, the removable non-stick bowl makes it a snap using warm water and a soft sponge. Never use any abrasive sponges with the Panasonic SR-NA18 bowl!

  • easy to use and clean
  • very good quality white and brown rice
  • programmable timer
  • retractable cord allows for easy transport and frees up clutter behind unit
  • one of the most affordable 10 cup Fuzzy Logic cookers available

  • some folks report a confusing manual
  • not the quickest of rice cookers (except for “quick cook” setting)
  • for the size, could use a slow cook feature
  • internal battery requires replacement after an average of 4 years

Where to Buy a Panasonic Rice Cooker

Purchase at (may be discontinued)

Please note that the cooker will still work fine without the battery, but will fail to keep time if unplugged, or lose programmed memory should power go out while cooking.

So, for the money, this Panasonic fuzzy logic rice cooker gets the job done, looks great, and cooks great quality brown rice much better than those less expensive models.

While we think the Panasonic SR-NA18 will make a fine addition to your kitchen just quickly compare it to the Sanyo ECJ-HC100S.
