Oster 3071 Review

Oster 3071 Electric Rice Cooker

Price Range: Moderate

Rice Quality: Good

Benefits & Features: Several

Performance: Good

Pros vs. Cons: Balanced
Overall Rating: Good

This Oster 3071 electric rice cooker is one of the few, if not the only, digital rice cookers in their lineup.

Most Oster rice cooker models are on the basic side and do not come equipped with digital settings that are more geared for cooking specific rice varieties.

However, this electric rice cooker does not state it uses advanced fuzzy logic technology and will not monitor how the rice cooks but instead will presoak the selected rice variety and cook at a somewhat slower pace and adjust temperature during the process. Something which is similar to fuzzy logic cooking.

The Oster 3071 electric rice cooker has settings for, white rice, brown rice, a steaming function, a “breakfast” setting, and a soup setting.

From what we understand, the “breakfast” setting is used for preparing oatmeal and/or steel cut oats.

The cooker has a 10 cup raw capacity that will yield around 30 cups of cooked regular white rice, (in rice cooker measurements). Several owners reported that the rice quality is of a good standard and is a step up when compared to stove top or basic rice cooker quality.

The Oster 3071 Electric Rice Cooker comes with a non-stick bowl for easy serving and cleaning, special measuring cup, steaming tray, serving spatula, condensation collector, and manual.

The only somewhat negative feedback we managed to find is that one user reported water tends to collect inside the rim of the cooker and on the top lid. However, we believe this is an isolated incident due to a defective seal…but cannot confirm at this time.

Overall a good choice for large families that want an extra boost in brown rice quality but do not wish to spend a lot on expensive fuzzy logic cookers.

  • non-stick easy serving & cleaning
  • multiple settings | not just a “rice cooker”
  • cooks good quality white and brown rice
  • good price for 10 cup digital cooker

  • no specific times for rice cycles
  • lacks additional rice settings such as mixed, sweet, sushi, along with a quick cook feature
  • no programmable clock
  • large size may be cumbersome on counters

From the looks of it and for the price, the pros & cons remain balanced and it is better than the older Krups models.

But folks should also quickly compare with newer rice cooker models such as the Sanyo ECJ-M100S or the slightly smaller 8 cup Cuisinart FRC-800 model before making a final choice.

However, we will make note that out of all of the rice cookers we have reviewed thus far, this Oster 3071 electric rice cooker offers good value and benefits for the price. And if it had a slow cook setting, clock, and quick cook function, perhaps it would have squeezed in a better overall rating.

But as far as 10 cup capacity cookers go, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one for low price that offers the multiple features like this model does.
