Oyama CFS-B12U Rice Cooker

Price Range: Moderate

Rice Quality: Good

Benefits & Features: Few

Performance: Good

Pros vs. Cons: Balanced
Overall Rating: Good

The Oyama CFS-B12U rice cooker is one of our more recent rice cooker reviews and in a couple of ways we found it somewhat rivals our long-time favorite Tiger JAZ & JNP series rice cookers.

This model has a 7 cup capacity that can yield up to approx. 21 cups of cooked white rice (in rice cooker cup measurements), is very easy to use thanks to the one touch lever operation, and comes with a neat little steaming tray for preparing healthy steamed food.

Unlike many other rice cookers, this model sports a stainless-steel-coated cooking bowl instead of using non-stick material which presents a health concern to some folks.

This is a great health-conscious alternative to the non-stick material cookers, but do keep in mind cleanup of the removable bowl is just a wee bit more of a chore due to sticking…but nothing a good soaking won’t take care of.

Overall, this unit performs very much like any rice cooker of this build & style. It has a sealed domed lid that helps prevent boil over issues, has a condensation collector for catching most of the dripping water once open, and sports stay cool carrying handles for easy transport from counter to table.

Rice quality is good with just some small trial and error when cooking brown rice, jasmine, wild rice, etc.

As mentioned, this Oyama CFS-B12U rice cooker comes with a stainless steel steaming tray that allows folks to steam vegetables, meat, seafood, etc. while the rice cooks below. The unit also comes with a special measuring cup, serving spatula, and manual.

We did hear several reports worth mentioning, one about rice crusting issues on the bottom layer. Something which is normal for most basic non-computerized rice cookers. The other regarding it does not utilize a retractable cord like the Tiger rice cookers.

One helpful reviewer on Amazon.com also shows a picture of the steaming tray that sort of sits below the top rim of the bowl making it more of a challenge to remove when hot which is something we don’t usually see in other rice cookers. But this does not seem to present that much of a concern, (just use caution).

Overall, we feel the Oyama CFS-B12U rice cooker is good and worth purchasing for the average-sized household, but also recommend folks compare it to the Miracle Exclusives stainless steel rice cooker before making a final selection.

Pros

  • cooks good/average quality rice fast
  • allows folks to steam food and cook rice at the same time
  • easy to operate
  • stainless steel cooking bowl and tray great alternative to non-stick material

Cons

  • some report rice sticking and crusting issues
  • no clock, timer, or specific rice functions
  • no retractable cord like units in same price range
  • steaming tray seems to sit lower than usual and is a challenge to remove when hot

Where to Buy an Oyama Rice Cooker

Purchase From Amazon.com

With a balanced mix of pros and cons along with a current 4 Star review on Amazon.com, for the price, performance, steaming feature, and cup capacity, we can say go with it if you seek a stainless steel rice cooker that can also steam while cooking.

One again, the Miracle Exclusive 8 cup cooker is also a good consideration besides the Oyama CFS-B12U rice cooker, but it too has its share of small similar cons too minus the low steaming tray position.

Truth is, at this current time there are little stainless steel cookers on the market to choose from. But so far, these models have pleased the majority.
